The smell of rain

At the end of this story, it gives you two options. I think you will figure out what option I chose.

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallas as the doctor walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery.

Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest news.
That afternoon of March 10, 1991, complications had forced Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already knew she was perilously premature.

Still, the doctor's soft words dropped like bombs.

"I don't think she's going to make it," he said, as kindly as he could.

"There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then, if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one"

Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived.

She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation, and on and on.

"No! No!" was all Diana could say.

She and David, with their 5-year-old son Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become a family of four.

Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away

But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana. Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system was essentially 'raw', the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort, so they couldn't even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests to offer the strength of their love.

All they could do, as Dana struggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the tangle of tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay close to their precious little girl.

There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger.

But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of strength there.

At last, when Dana turned two months old. her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital, just as her mother had predicted.

Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life.

She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from the end of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in Irving , Texas , Dana was sitting in her mother's lap in the bleachers of a local ball park where her brother Dustin's baseball team was practicing.

As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent. Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, "Do you smell that?"

Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm, Diana replied, "Yes, it smells like r ain."

Dana closed her eyes and again asked, "Do you smell that?"

Once again, her mother replied, "Yes, I think we're about to get wet. It smells like rain."

Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced,
"No, it smells like Him.

It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest."

Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play with the other children.

Before the rains came, her daughter's words confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family had known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she remembers so well.

sorry for not posting for a couple of days! why? because my schedule was full! no time for blogging, ym-ing and other recreational stuff!darn! why? we had seminars for the confirmation, report draft making, presentations, everything! arg! i was really stressed out! ok so we had seminars..(as i have said :D) for the confirmation.. first i was seated beside ate tish and company(monique, helaria etc).. i waited in the waiting area! haha.. good thing the lady guard let us enter again (because they do not allow students to go in and out of the campus) then wed was the next seminar.. from classes.. straight to the seminar! wuhoo! i think miss carla wa the speaker... friday.. while waiting*( because our dissmissal was 4)we.. (I, tish, monique, helaria, maira and shannon) went to ms lhou's office.. why? because we just want to :p! haha.. we were talking about stuff.. then we caught someone using a cp! haha.. then.. i did not attend our shooting for the english project last saturday.. why? i had to go to the dentisT! darn! so i missed all the fun that they had in intramuros! all the pics! i wasn't there! damn! haha... then.. mondai was the next seminar i was seated with lorraine..? and lara.. woa.. whatta day.. today we didn't have classes! yipee! but we had to do lots of activities! banderitas making...novelty song practice (though im not one of the participants! :p)... street dance practice.. palarong pinoy meeting(teams..)

we made flowerettes(huh? is there such word? sorry if i mispelled it if there's such word) and the spiral thingie.. yey.. it was so cute..! ncra lng nung we put it in the "banderitas proper" na. haha.. :) aiun.. lging nahuhulog ung banderitas! haha! pro ok n xa.. our classroom is decoreted.. btw.. our modular landscape is already fixed.. it just needs some improvement. :)weeeeeee... ako pasimuno nung flower things... and effective.. it made our classroom livelier! yey! the first flower that i made was green and red.. christmas! yahuu! haha

wow.. yesterday i had no plans of going out.. it was 1 in the afternoon.. when my mom told me to dress up.. for what? we're going to my aunt's house.. in taytay, rizal. why? coz my cuz is a dentist! with my dad's officemate (once again) so we stayed there for two hours (i guess). it was hot in there! super! so we went out.. i was the last one to go out.. we went in our own cars.. after a while i joined hanna in their van.. we talked about anything that came to our minds.. haha.. somebody's txting me that time and she was waiting for one.. haha.. so we walked then we saw a group of guys walking (they're big guys!) then mhikey(ate frannie's son) said "yuck!! number eight!" haha.. whatta trip! as in! then when they already passed we laughed haha.. so he ran and ran.. then my cuzin came (not the dentist the other one) he wa riding a motorbike eh it was already 7 in the evening.. so it was already dark haha.. he was going away from us.. yey! 100th post! yahuu! i've been waiting for this day! the day i'll write my 100th post! haha.. we didn't go to atc! :( why? cuz tita zeny (the wife of my dad's officemate) came here cuz their car (or van) needs to be fixed. ow well.. maybe we'll go there tomorrow.. i got my books already! two books aren't released yet.. too bad.. so are the sections.. hehe.. that's fine.. i saw bianca there.. and atlast! FINALLY i have my very own BOWTIE! haha..it cost 50Php.. haha.. pe uniform aren't available yet. ow well.. maybe i'll have my pe tshirt when sections are already released.. there are a lot of new students! haha.. i think cuz we're first year people. haha.. nothing important today.. just the day i wrote my 100th post! haha.. so i was using this blog for almost a year! haha.. 100th post!! yey!!

well.. today's super boring.. nothin to do nothin to say.. well.. we're gonna get my books tomorrow. then we'll go to atc.. why? we're going to SONY's office to find someone who can fix the digicam. then actually i wanted to go to festival mall but since we're going to atc i'll just buy my bag there.. perhaps i'll intentionally leave my wallet tomorrow so that my mom's gonna pay for my bag! ahaha whatta plan.. im really bored.. my mom isn't here she's going to bulacan. why? coz my dad's officemate wanted to see my ninang's brother who is an architect. got it? their house is really cool! centralized! haha.. well.. it's sunday so no tv show is good.. i dont wanna watch "kaleido star" anymore (its an anime haha) why? cuz its already a replay.. ow well.. we attended the 10:30 am mass in philam i saw some batchmates there.. like ferdi?(not sure if its him), edel(and his family) jerome ramos (with his family also) gerald ablaza ( i only saw his sister) charmaine (and her whole family) and MR lijaunco (not my batchmate he belong to the batch after us, he's also with his family) well.. i saw this girl in the church.. her face was familiar but i dont know where did i saw her. well i thought she was the ( ok i dnt wanna talk about this person)'s sister.. well i dont wanna remember him/her.. so let's not talk about it..today is may 21! and a few days after its may 24 con con's bday! hahaha.. then couple of days later its 27 daddy's bday! then we'll go to sleep then its our trip to cebu and bohol! yes! haha.. i haven't packed my things well perhaps i'll pack my things 2 days before the trip so that's may 26! hahaa.. well.. my plan in going therE? im gonna buy pasalubongs for mikk.natz.tropang jjatta(k) [no more "k" coz cuzin isn't here anymore]. and also i'll buy a birthday present for manix (june 6) jhell?? wow.. whatta day! my mom woke me up at 7:40am? (is it early?) i was sleepy then.. my mom told me we're going to the jungle pool she was talking about a couple of days ago.. at first i thought it was freakin ugly like there's spider webs and everything.. but when i saw the pool? wow! it was so cool! as in there's this fountain in the middle..! the water? i dont know how it happend but in the middle part.. it was cold and in the sides it was hot.. haha.. how did it happen? idk.. haha.. we we're with tito edwin my dad's officemate (again).. ow well.. our digi cam's broken! argh! so no pics are with us.. its with them.. anyway they'll give us a copy.. now? im tan.. no not tan im dark! haha..what else? oh my mom isn't here (so as my kuya) they're going to the mall (iguess) to find someone to fix the digicam., well i just finished mikk's blog.. well there's no posts in there.. its NEW! haha.. i finished editing the skin.. hope she likes it.. i was supposed to use that skin but i didn't cuz i want a clicktonav one.. hehe.. well just see my links for her url!louch! damn sunburn hahaha.. ow guyz! i missed blogging!! i'll discuss everything about our retreat in the next lines.... I REALLY DID MISS BLOGGING!! I dId! HOneST! any way... January 16, 206 monday(until jan 17) we had our retreat! it was so fun... and of course memorable...

Morning/ Preparation for departure

retreat na! I said to myself...(I actually woke up at 3:30 am...w/o an alarm clock!)... I was really excited...I came to school at 6:50 am..I left a lot of things! my watch... and also my pillow!Anyway that's not important! then assembly time(7:15am) then some reminders about the retreat...(by miss edith)

departure/travel

I enjoyed the travel...(why? i was dreaming!! sleeping during the travel... hehehehe) then I listened to the stories of my classmates... then after an hour and a half... we were there! yipee!

Retreat proper

First we had an orientation then after awhile... we started our first ssession...at first I thought father was so strict and I wont enjoy the retreat... but I did enjoy!he told us many things... like Dayeinu!! yey!... we ate... then another session... eat again... then we climed a tree... then session... dinner... then star gazing! I was with Lloyd,.my mom...I saw lots of stars... I enjoyed it...I love it! and I miss it...then the final task... I criedwhen father was saying somethign about fathers.... I miss my dad! then that's it.... sleeping time... I woke up at 6:30 am...(late!) then we fixed ourselves... ate then we went to mass... Its my first time to drink the blood of Christ... I enjoyed everything in the Capuchin Retreat center... I miss it already...

ahm... nice day 2day... nothin important.. ahm.. i'll just tell what happend yesterday

in the morning it was so boring...... then we went to my auntie's house... we ate this noodles wit SO many vegetables that's y i didn't eat many of them then my cuzin checked our teeth... i need this retainer(a special one... coz it will make my gums larger.. then i shall wear the braces already...) okie then we like stayed there for a while... we watched finding nemo...(we didn't finish it....) then we went to the cementery.... then stayed there for awhile... and went to my mom's office mate's house... and went home!!! ow yah 4ot tell u that my cuzin let me this CD to watch=))

ow yah! i watched mulan2 and that video 2day! mulan2 was great! super nkakadik! ahlykit!!

my day isn't nice... it's GREAT! haha... btw.. my story yesterday aint complete... before i went to sleep i txted (i mean i replied to a msg...) he was checking if i'm still awake... and then txted me so many sweet msgs... can't put it all here! i'll keep it! its in my fone (SAVED! yah! that's y my fone is a treasure...) then i went to sleep with a S-M-I-L-E! then i slept...10 hrs.... then i was still sleepy when my fone rang... (still sleepy at 8:30am? haha its me! it really me!) then of coarse a msg was there! greeting me a pleasant morning! yeah! so i was still sleepy so i didn't reply in that very moment (besides my mom would scold me! it's too early for txting!) 9:00 i prepeared for the day and soon greeted him good morning too... he was asking me how my sleep was... hahha super caring! enough of that msgs... then i used the net... and when the internet card ran out i watched tv! all day! yah... then 2:30pm i slept (coz i dont hav anything to do... and my kya told me i can use the net in 6:00pm) when i woke up... its about 4:5pm.. i went out of the room and drank water... and when i opened the door (going back to the room) my fone rang (okie... were staring again about this msgs..!) he was just checking me... then tv again! then made my kuya hurry in his game and now? using the net! before my mom goes home! hahaha btw IAPEE ALOWIN guys! its the 31st of october! my day is super GREAT (super!) and super SWEET! it aint scary!! i think ants are starting to bite me!! (and him maybe him! he's sweeter than me TODAY!! only today! oh and yesterday!!) okei... my day isn't done yet! gotta go!

day 2 sembreak:sunday::
i woke up in 7:53 am i think... then i opened my YM... just to check whose online.. unfortunately.. NO ONE was!.. then somebody called me and she told me the food was ready... so i closed the ineternet for a while and ate... when i came back... my bro(elder) was playing dota! shocks! so i asked him to play faster for me to use the net...so i used the net for ahm... 20 mins i think.. and the internet card ran out :((.... then my mom called(she's not irr) and said that we should dress up for a party in my uncle's new house... i waited for her like eternity! i was in my pink shirt and maong pantz anout 10:30am and she came at home at 11:30am one hour? not yet! we waited for my aunt until 1pm! shocks! waited there outside like eternity... then... we traveled and saw a truck that was said to be "natumba" sorry for the tagalog word... mental block guys! then i wanted to take a picture of it but i cant :((... then we went into this gasoline station and met my cuzins... so traveled like eternity.. and we soon entered tierra del fuego... my uncle's place.! yeah! we thought we were near! but we aren't! hahaha! the houses were small..(no ofence tito!) so our driver called it "pugo"(quail eggs.. it's small ryt?)... so i said it was Tierra del Pugo! hhaha.. they laughed! =)) then we were dizzy coz we went on circles in this place.. and finally reached my uncle's place (not obvious its our first time there!) then we went home at 7 pm... and i used the net (ryt now!!) and finally i'll sleep..

kei so its a staurday! and sembreak starts! wee!! i love it! SEMBREAK starts with an S and S means Shopping!so i bought a jump rope and a new cd... y a jump rope? coz i dunnoe how to use it.. i'll spend 8 days trying to learn how to use it! hehehe... and a new MYMP cd... i bought this 2 disc special thingie... so i'll spend 8 days memorizing songs! ehehe... kei so sat and sun is for sleeping and eating and using the net... and... i saw trish adia there! hehehe we took i pic of uz... she was wearing high heels that's why in the pic she looks like mah momma! hehehe... i wore rubber shoes xe eh... so i was small tlga... hahaha... so i'll be fixing my hair on friday... what i mean is i would have my haircut... hahaha... then dental check up on thurs i think.. nagaayos para sa grad pic!! :)) hahaha am ha!! and i will read that edith halmilton book for no reason... ahahha blogging? i wont forget to update my blog... dont worry!! hahhaa... till here folks! add me up in ym! pleaz! angelica_angelous ... and in friendster too... -GeCa- is the name.. then i'll be looking forward to testimonials! till here guys! luv y'all!

weeee!!! i've got good grades!! exept math :(( i'm only 82 there!! waahh!:(( anyway so as you can see math is my weakness and 'm not proud... im trying to to my best but my best aint enough *cries* any way besides math i had lower grades in Science, Music and Arts... hehe im not into MAPE... but art is my love so my only problem there is my absent days.... any way so i've got 94 in Filipino!! yey!(how boastful nman the girl!! that's bad geca! bad!)... others just retained my scores just like CCF... then others? higher guys!higher! so im in my ==+==hapie mOde==+==

you know what? a cup of FREEZING iced tea :)) so i was like a grade 1 pupil whose shirt was so messy! hehe... then i was the only who answered my TLE teacher's question... hehe it was so easy yet even my INTELLIGENT classmates didn't know the answer! yeah! i was.... nothing... so it was a nice day... i think... ja was pulled outa class for their practices (that GSP thing)... ahm.. whatelse? dont have anything tah say... till here yah guys! hope yah have a nice day!!
